The idea for the invitation came purely from where the event was taking place. I inspired myself from one of the numerous and famous Gaudi sculpture in Park Güell in Barcelona. I interpreted the stunning mosaic by creating patterns in illustrator to render a flat version of the famous lizard.

The famous Gaudí lizard, or dragon, is a reference to the St George and dragon legend that appears throughout Barcelona’s Moderniste statuary.

The park Güell has an amazing system designed to collect rain water in the wet months, and store it in a cistern (which can hold 2600 gallons) for the dry months. The water trickles out of the dragon’s mouth near the entrance to the park.
